The National Archives and Records Administration will celebrate Lincoln's bicentennial with a day-long symposium on Saturday, September 20, 2008. The event will feature three panels of historians whose subjects will include Lincoln and the Constitution, Lincoln and Emancipation, and Lincoln's Legacy. The presentations will provide historical insight into Abraham Lincoln's presidency and his prosecution of the Civil War. The speakers will address Lincoln's use of 'war powers' vis-a-vis the Constitution and civil rights. Lincoln as Commander-in-Chief will be explored, especially during the latter part of the war. The importance of Emancipation, the end of slavery, and the Thirteenth Amendment will be a major part of the day's discussions. |
